Questions We Hear a Lot

How much will my move cost?

The total tracks two things: how much you are moving and how tough the access is. Two movers and a truck run $125/hr locally, and you get an itemized estimate in writing before anyone lifts a box. Prefer certainty? Lock a flat cap and the number you sign becomes the most it can ever be. Out-of-state jobs price by weight and distance.

How do you handle a Nashville summer move?

We book the earliest slots so the bulk of the loading wraps before the afternoon bakes. Everyone drinks plenty of water in the humidity, we park the truck in whatever shade we can find, and anything that suffers in heat, candles, vinyl, electronics, artwork, gets wrapped so a 95-degree day leaves no mark.

Can you move me into a downtown high-rise or Gulch condo?

All the time. Tell us the building when you book and we reserve the freight elevator and loading dock, file the certificate of insurance the property manager wants, and time the move to your building’s moving hours so nothing stalls at the front desk.

My home is an older place with narrow stairs. Is that a problem?

Not for us. We move a lot of the bungalows and two-stories in East Nashville, 12South, and Germantown, where the streets are tight and the staircases are tighter. We measure the doorways, protect the floors and banisters, and hoist or hand-carry whatever will not turn the corner.

I live in a gated community in Brentwood or Franklin. Can you deal with that?

Routinely. Drop the gate code and HOA rules into your booking and we take it from there, getting the crew onto the guard’s list, claiming the move-in window, and filing whatever certificate of insurance or deposit the association requires. The truck never sits idle at the entrance waiting on paperwork.

When does the clock start?

Billing begins the moment the crew gets to work at your place, not when they roll out of the shop. Past the first hour we charge in one-minute increments, so a job that runs an hour and ten minutes costs exactly that. We lay out the hourly rate and how travel time is figured before we touch a box.

Do I have to leave a deposit?

Just a small hold to reserve your date, and it is fully refundable. On move day it converts straight into a credit against your total, so you are never paying it twice. Cancel with two days’ notice and it returns in full. All of it is spelled out on your booking the moment you make it.

How and when do I pay?

You settle up once the job is finished, not a dollar before. Every major credit card works, and so do check and cash. Before the crew heads out, you review the final total and approve it right there on site.

Are tips expected?

Not in the slightest, and nothing is ever quietly tacked onto your invoice. Crews that go the extra mile often see ten to fifteen percent divided among them, by card or cash, but that call belongs entirely to you.

Is there anything you won’t move?

A short list, mostly for safety and legal reasons: flammables and chemicals like propane, paint, and gasoline, plus ammunition, live plants, food that can spoil, and pets. If a piece is unusually large, heavy, or valuable, mention it when you book so the right crew and equipment show up.

Are you licensed and insured?

We are. Family Moving and Delivery holds Tennessee household-goods authority and full insurance, and your job never leaves our own crew, no broker takes a cut in the middle. Want the authority numbers and coverage specifics? Ask, and we will explain your valuation choices before you sign a thing.

What if something gets broken?

Careful wrapping keeps it uncommon, but when something does go wrong we note it right there on your inventory and open the claim that same day. Ahead of the move we walk you through released versus full-value protection, so there are no surprises about how a claim gets handled.

How far ahead should I book?

For a typical local move, ten to fourteen days is plenty. Month-end and the June-through-August rush fill faster, so aim for three or four weeks in those windows, and a touch more for a Saturday. That said, last-minute openings do come up, so a quick call is always worth it.

Can you move a piano, a safe, or studio gear?

Absolutely, with movers who do exactly this week in and week out. Uprights, grands, gun safes, road cases, heirlooms, framed art, each travels on the correct board or dolly with proper straps and blankets, and we will crate a piece to order when its value warrants it.

Will you pack for me?

Whatever share you want us to take on. The full house? Consider it boxed. Only the kitchen and the framed art? That works too. We arrive with genuine cartons and paper, label every box by its room, and can unpack you at the destination once the truck is empty.

Do you move out of state?

Yes, and it stays on one truck with one crew for the entire trip. Nothing is brokered out, nothing gets transferred into a stranger’s trailer at a depot, and you get a delivery window you can build your calendar around.

Do you offer storage?

Yes. Whether you need a few weeks between closings or several months while the next place comes together, your belongings sit in a clean, secured space with every item on an inventory. Our crew loads it in and brings it back out, so a second truck rental never enters the picture.

I’m relocating to Nashville from out of state. Can you help?

As Nashville keeps booming, that has become a big share of our work. We coordinate the delivery window, meet you at the new place, and handle the freight elevator, gate, or HOA on this end. Your things travel on our truck with our crew, never brokered off to whoever is cheapest that week.

Can I reschedule or cancel?

No trouble at all. Give us at least two days’ notice to shift your date or call it off, and your deposit comes back in full. Each of these terms is written plainly into your booking, so there is nothing to second-guess down the road.
